JSS1 Home Economics
This 12-week first-term course is designed for Junior Secondary School 1 students as part of Pre-Vocational Studies. Learners explore how Home Economics equips them with practical knowledge and skills for healthy family living, wise use of resources, personal care and hygiene, and understanding the home environment. Topics progress from foundational concepts of the subject and careers, through family structures and relationships, body care and grooming, hygiene routines, to the meaning and types of homes, ending with revision and examination. The course emphasises real-life application for Nigerian students, preparing them for useful living and future vocational pathways.

- Explain the structure, functions, care and grooming of the hair, eyes, ears, nose and skin.
- Define personal hygiene, state its importance to health and social acceptance, and describe daily and weekly hygiene practices.
- Define a home, distinguish it from a house, and describe common types of homes (bungalow, flat, duplex, tenement).
