PHYSICS SSS1- TERM 1
Physics SS1 is a comprehensive first-term course designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles and applications of Physics. The course begins with the meaning, importance and branches of Physics and its applications in everyday life, medicine, communication, electricity, technology and other fields.
Students will study physical quantities, fundamental and derived quantities, units, SI units, prefixes and dimensions. They will learn about the concept and measurement of time, including the use of clocks, stopwatches, ticker-tape timers, pendulums and other measuring instruments.
The course also introduces motion in nature, including translational, linear, circular, random, rotational and oscillatory motion. Students will study position, distance and displacement and develop an understanding of their applications in solving numerical problems.
Rectilinear motion covers acceleration, deceleration, equations of uniformly accelerated motion, distance covered in the nth second, free-fall motion and velocity-time graphs. Students will also learn about force and friction, including contact and non-contact forces, types of friction, advantages and disadvantages of friction, coefficient of friction and friction on inclined planes.
The course concludes with equilibrium fluids, covering fluids, density, relative density and pressure in fluids. Throughout the course, students are provided with worked examples, calculations, classwork and objective questions to strengthen their understanding and problem-solving skills.
